Hey guys, so today it's all about internet talk. And yes I know it's a great service and can give us nearly every answer than we need in life but on a professional basis are we too reliant?
In relation to PR I feel that we shouldn't depend heavily on it because in that case we wouldn't be really communicating to the public now would we? In saying that it is easy to find yourself falling into that trap of googling every little thing known to man, sure why wouldn't we when there is so must interesting information floating around out there to be found, but today I'm just going to run over a few things that a business should look out for whilst operating online.
Misunderstanding is a big one, probably the biggest thing when dealing with others online. In communicating it is vital that your message is clear to the receiver. Without face-to-face contact messages can be far too easily misread, misinterpreted or not read at all, this could lead to unnecessary tension within your company or even worse to your customers. So, when dealing with anybody, whether it is through emails, private messages or text, it is your responsibility to ensure that your message it received correctly because if it isn't and its online then I'm afraid it won't disappear for a very long time. So, keep it simple, keep it clear and also keep it clean!
Another thing I would like to highlight is that being online is a very competitive business, this may be shocking but it is pretty cut throat out there. Where as you might have an online presence but your presence mightn’t necessarily be known, this could purely be because there is just too much information out there. So, how do you keep yourself on top? By communicating of course! The more online noise you make, the more contacts you have or even the more tweets you post the more chance you’ll have of surviving in the big bad internet world.
Lastly security needs to be mentioned. Wait not even mentioned, more so drilled in. It is just too important not to be taking seriously. As a company, person or service that interacts with any form of client or customer you are solely responsible for handling their personal information. Get a good firewall on all work computers and secure your systems, because trust me the last thing you want is leaking data on your hands, something like that could possibly ruin your day!
So there you have it, be sure to stay wise online!
